For drivers interested in the 2017 Prius Prime wanting a little more space, the second-generation could very well bring the middle seat back.

"As Nathan Kokes, Toyota's brand manager for advanced technology vehicles, told us back in April when the Prime was unveiled, giving the Prime only four seats was important for the car's overall efficiency," writes the staff at AutoBlog. "If the rear were to seat three across, the car would need to have more reinforcing material and its 3.3-kW charger would need to be moved. Those changes are possible, and Koji Toshiyama said he's ready to make them happen."

Currently, the first-gen Prius Prime is on schedule for a fall release. It will debut a slightly more futuristic look than the other Prius models and trims; along with LED lighting, an infotainment display, and of course, that four-seat layout.
